PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner achieving this unit standard will be able to plan and organise Sport activities for an identified target group. The learner will be able to take into account the different needs of target groups as they relate to age differences, abilities and interests of the target group as well as the availability of a facility, venue or playing field and improvise where necessary.

Competent qualifying learners in Sport organisation will provide safe, quality and positive experiences to participants and volunteers and thus strengthen the Sport profession in general.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Establish an organising committee to oversee the activities.
  • Compile an activity plan for the agreed activities.
  • Administer the logistics of the activity.
  • Market the activities within the community.
  • Deal with participants and volunteers.
  • Evaluate the experience.

    In addition the learner will be well positioned to extend their learning and practice into other areas of Sport or Recreation organization, or to strive towards Sport, Recreation or Fitness management standards and practice at higher levels.

    A learner undertaking this unit standard is assumed to already have:
  • Demonstrated competence against relevant unit standards at NQF Level 3 either through a previous qualification or through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which assesses workplace-based experiential learning.
  • Demonstrated competence in Language and Communication skills at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

    Processes are facilitated leading to the nomination of committee members who will be involved in the organization of the activities.

    The portfolios of the committee are determined with sufficient detail to ensure appropriate coverage of the organization.

    The tasks and responsibilities of each member are adequately defined so that duties are carried out effectively. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Guidelines are provided to the committee with regards to meeting procedures, agendas and minutes. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Compile an activity plan for the agreed activities.

    The programme for the day is developed with due emphasis on meeting the needs of the target group(s).

    A budget is compiled with clear guidelines on how the programme will be executed to meet budgetary constraints.

    A database of volunteers and participants is compiled that ensures maximum human resource utilization.

    Meals and dietary requirements are prepared according to a specified plan.

    Directions to the venue are supplied with due regard to different approach points.

    Sponsorships are obtained by implementing effective fundraising strategies.

    Tasks and responsibilities of all volunteers are allocated with due regard for previous experience.

    Performance and progress are monitored and feedback is provided with the intent to improve the operation.
