PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This is a Unit Standard intended for managers in all economic sectors. These managers would typically be second level managers such as a heads of department, section heads or divisional heads, and may have more than one team reporting to them.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying the nature of diversity in the working environment.
  • Identifying the positive consequences of diversity in the working environment.
  • Dealing with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Dealing with disagreements and conflict arising from diversity amongst individuals and groups.

    it is assumed that people learning towards this Unit Standard are competent in:
  • Communication at NQF level 4.

    4. Ways of meeting the diverse needs of clients with a range of products and services is explored to maximise the profitability/effectiveness of the section/division/department and/or the organisation as a whole.

    5. Diverse viewpoints are encouraged in team/group/section/division/department meetings.

    Identify and utilise commonality in diversity in the workplace to make the group more effective.

    1. Common values and attitudes prevalent amongst employees are identified to use as a basis for work to be performed, communication methods and creation of mutual respect and trust.

    2. Common values agreed to are written into all team documentation.

    3. Common values which are to be written into the mission, strategies and objectives of the organisation are forwarded to the people responsible for the compilation of the documents.

    4. Generation of diverse viewpoints is encouraged in team brainstorming.

    Deal with disagreements and conflict arising from diversity amongst individuals and groups.

    1. All incidents of conflict and disagreement and acts of indignity are recognised and dealt with according to organisation policy and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. All dealings and interaction between employees and with clients demonstrate mutual respect.

    3. All cases of discrimination and discriminatory practices are identified and handled at the appropriate level of authority in the organisation. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Assessment of this Unit Standard should be contextual and practical.
  • Assessors must be registered as an assessor with the Services SETA ETQA or an ETQA that represents the sector in which the learner is employed and which has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Services SETA ETQA.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with the Services ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Services ETQA.
  • The mechanisms and requirements for moderation should be applied in accordance with the requirements of the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment should include both formative and summative assessment.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the Services ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Services ETQA.
