PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification is registered at level 4 of the National Qualifications Framework. Learners acquiring this qualification will demonstrate competence across areas including retail administration, customer services, cash and stock. Three optional areas exist for learners who are involved in selling and / or buying and / or credit transactions.

Learners will have a choice of elective areas where they will be able to implement retail and wholesale practices in either:
  • Clothing, textiles, footwear and accessories.
  • Furniture and appliances.
  • Food handling.
  • Other speciality areas which will be enhanced as the needs in retail and wholesale emerge.

    The fundamental learning which learners will acquire will allow them to be able to compile and deliver presentations, generate electronic data and interpret financial reports. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners will have attained the NQF Level 2 qualification in retail and wholesale practices through competence assessment or recognition of prior learning.

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Integrative Assessment

    Learners will produce evidence of the following:
  • Descriptions, verbally and written on auditing and work processes, procedures of cash deposits, a range of techniques for motivating sales people, techniques for promotional displays, procedures for dealing with complaints and queries, and a range of criteria used for replenishing and releasing of stock items.
  • Descriptions of one of the following:
  • Procedure for conducting of reference checking and the reasons for doing it.
  • Ranges and categories of stock and procedures for selecting suppliers.
  • Procedures for handling customers involved in a selling process.
  • Demonstration of compiling and distributing of a range of administrative reports, carrying out of a cash up procedure, reconciling of cash payments, presenting a promotional concept, scheduling a range of promotion activities, updating customer records, resolving a range of different customer complaints and queries, and producing a range of reports showing favourable stock movement for a given period of time. These demonstration skills cover a particular area of specialisation.
  • Interpret a financial report, generate a specific set of data and conduct a group presentation.
