PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person achieving this unit standard will be able to adapt existing spaces in the community for utilisation as a facility in the sports context. The learner will do this by recognising, identifying and creatively adapting existing resources as a facility and equipment.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Create safe facilities out of existing spaces.
  • Develop necessary resources for a specific activity.
  • Maintain different surfaces.
  • Manage volunteers.
  • Access sports relevant information.

    Competent qualifying learners, who achieve this standard in conjunction with appropriate related standards in the qualification and at level 5, will be able to effectively adapt available spaces in communities thereby improving the health and ability of communities and contribute to the general improvement of sport in South Africa in general.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    A learner undertaking this unit standard must already have:
  • Demonstrated competence against relevant unit standards at NQF level 3 either through a previous qualification or through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which assesses workplace-based experiential learning.
  • Demonstrated competence in Language and Communication skills at NQF level 3 or equivalent.

    Safe spaces in the community/vicinity are identified and proposals for use are submitted that ensures safe participation by participants.

    Ways are described and applied, to utilise available space as a facility.

    Guidelines to develop the facility are outlined which will address the needs of the participants.

    Equipment, rules and sizes of fields for activities to meet specific needs of the participants and environment are adapted for the community.

    Available resources for use as equipment are improvised to enable participation in specific activities.

    Available spaces are identified as play areas and adapted to suit the needs of the activity.

    Knowledge of lay outs of different fields of activities is clearly explained so as to ensure participants full involvement.
