PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard will be useful to people working in materials handling in a stores environment

Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Prepare to stack and de-stack loads
  • Stack and de-stack loads using a range of moving equipment
  • Position materials at various locations and on varying surfaces

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Valid driver`s license; forklift truck driver`s license. Candidates should also have credit for Standard "Implement housekeeping, health, safety and hygiene practices"

    Stack and de-stack loads using a range of moving equipment.

    1. The moving equipment is operated in a manner, which maintains product quality and minimises vehicle running and maintenance costs 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The moving equipment is operated in a manner that promotes own and team safety 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Stacking of materials and/or product is in accordance with specific guidelines for particular products and locations 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Stacked material is stabilised according to specifications for the product so as to minimise movement and damage to product 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. Materials are stacked in a way that maintains product integrity, minimises damage to product and complies with standard operating procedures
    Correct load handling attachments are selected for the load type and condition

    2. Pre-use inspections are conducted according to manufacturer's specifications and standard operating procedures, and faults are actioned or reported to authorised personnel for repair

    3. Personal protective clothing is worn in a manner that protects personnel and product and complies with organisational policy and legislation

    Position materials at various locations and on varying surfaces.

    1. Materials are positioned in the correct places, according to standard operating procedures

    2. Materials are positioned on top of other materials in compliance with safety and quality regulations

    3. Positioning of materials on vehicles is in accordance with the regulations regarding weight of the load, stability of the load, and the size of the vehicle, and vehicle utilisation principles

    4. Loads are positioned in containers according to safe axle weight distribution principles, and in a manner that maximizes space utilization

    5. Consequences of incorrect positioning of loads are explained with regards to axle weight distribution principles and space utilization
