This Unit Standard is intended for learners who work as field assistants on maritime archaeological sites or as laboratory assistants in archaeological museums or in universities.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Accessing information on archaeological sites in Southern Africa.
  • Researching the history and significance of an archaeological site.
  • Presenting the findings of own archaeological research.

    It is recommended that learners are competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.

    Sources include, but are not limited to, journals, books, Internet, unpublished reports, Museum archives and the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA).

    Information is accessed for a specific site.

    A position is taken and substantiated on opinions expressed by researchers about the site.
