This unit standard is aimed at individuals involved in the identification, planning and implementation of practices which minimise the direct impact on the environment in which activities are conducted.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to:

Determine the impact of activities on the operational environment.

Plan for minimal impact on the environment.

Implement practices; which minimise impact on the environment in which activities are conducted.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

The interrelationships between, plants, animals, natural phenomena and people within the operational environment are identified so as to determine possible impact of activities on the environment and the ecosystem.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

Requirements for compliance with land management principles and policies are explained from personal and legal responsibility perspectives.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

The potential destructive impact of activities on the environment is identified and action taken to prevent and minimise such.

Minimal impact practices and procedures are integrated into a plan to reduce impact on the natural environment.

Alternative options or sites are selected to minimise impact where the impact of envisaged activities are possibly not beneficial to the environment.

Minimal impact practices and procedures, as recommended by the activity plan, are used to reduce impact on the natural environment.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Equipment use, etiquette and appropriate behaviour when interacting with the community, control of human waste, control of fires and use of artificial fires for cooking purposes, Natural, heritage or cultural sites are used in accordance with protocols, guidelines and/or legislation.

The impact on the environment of organisation practices is assessed so as to recommend future improvements.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS

An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.

Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures. External moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
