PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for people who need to create and use forms, reports and graphs in small scale GUI database applications.

A person credited with this unit standard is capable of:
  • Analysing the use of forms and reports.
  • Designing a form with all the necessary controls for ease of use in an end user environment.
  • Creating a report for meaningful interpretation of data. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that the learner is competent in the following:
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.
  • Communication at NQF Level 3.
  • Knowledge of GUI based database application. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • The design refers to all relational databases in a Graphical User Interface (GUI) environment.
  • This standard is applicable to any application that runs on any Graphical User Interface (GUI) operating systems.
  • Where wording is not exact for the chosen operating system or application, the learner can choose the equivalent item or option to demonstrate competence in the specific outcome or assessment criteria.

    The needs of users are identified and analysed to determine the structure of the form. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The content and layout of the form is planned to facilitate the gathering of the data required. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The use of forms is discussed with regard to their impact on the End Users. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The needs of users are identified and analysed to determine the structure of the report.

    The content and layout of the report is designed to meet reporting requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The use of reports is discussed in terms of structure and appearance. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Design a form with all the necessary controls for ease of use in an end user environment. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Controls include but are not limited to text box, label, combo boxes, and image controls, difference between bound control and other, using queries and tables as the basis for input, types of bound controls. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A header and footer are added to a form to accommodate information that will remain on the form as the user scrolls through records. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Bound controls are placed on a form for data entry. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Calculated controls are created to show the result of calculations on the underlying fields/field of a query or table. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Creation of calculated controls include the use of functions and expression builder.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Linked forms and subforms are created to enhance ease of use. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Creating processes include creating queries and use of join types and subform types.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    A multi page form is created to enhance ease of use. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Creating processes include inserting a page break control, adding a tab control.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Create a report for meaningful interpretation of data.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A report is created by attaching controls. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Creating processes include but are not limited to header and footer, detail sections, assigning controls.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Controlling page breaks and the printing of headers and footers are inserted to achieve a specified layout. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Controlling page breaks and the printing of headers and footers include options such as force new page, keep together.

    Report data are grouped and sorted to illustrate trends and draw conclusions.

    Summaries and running totals are included in a report to provide different perspectives of the underlying data.

    An alphabetic index is created to find records faster.

    A main report utilising sub-reports is produced, hiding duplicates.

    A chart is created from a report to visually enhance data.

    A graph is edited with tools provided as to achieve different formatting. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
