This unit standard will be useful to people who may be concerned with rockpass stability.

This unit standard is intended to promote general skills, knowledge and understanding of evaluating conditions in a rock pass in the mining and minerals sector in order to ensure knowledgeable and informed workers.

    Mine-specific safety equipment is shown and inspected prior to the visit to the rock pass in terms of legal and operational requirements.

    The mine-specific safety instructions for entering a rock pass are explained and executed in terms of legal and operational requirements.

    The rock pass conditions are evaluated according to mine-specific procedures.

    Observed rockwall conditions in a rock pass are recorded according to mine-specific requirements.

    A plan study is executed to evaluate geological and stress factors affecting the rock pass conditions in the context of mining operations.

    Computer simulations are used to ascertain the effect of mining on the stress state in terms of legal and operational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    All the factors affecting the rock pass conditions are listed and the associated risks determined in terms of legal and operational requirements.

    Appropriate remedial precautions to address the risks are investigated in terms of legal and operational requirements.
