PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for individuals managing operational processes that impact on the shrinkage and losses in a Wholesale and Retail unit.

Individuals credited with this unit standard will be in a position to analyze high risk areas, plan actions and interventions to reduce loss in critical areas such as safety, cash handling, stock storage, bad debt as well as internal and external theft (where applicable).

Individuals will be able to manage the implementation of their plans to reduce shrinkage and losses in an operational unit within the Wholesale and Retail environment and contribute to the improvement of the bottom line of their unit in the organisation.

It is assumed that the learner attempting this unit standard has completed the following area of learning:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4.
  • Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 4.

  • Factors for consideration includes but is not limited to shrinkage/losses that could be caused through safety, hygiene, security, stock control, spoilage and damages, handling of cash and other payments, authorisation of transactions, debtors control, internal and external theft and asset management.
  • Methods for the evaluation of risk include but are not limited to organisational policies, procedures, processes, administration, levels of authority and responsibility, paper trails, and other organisational reports.

    Critical areas for shrinkage and loss prevention are analyzed and evaluated in a Wholesale and Retail unit.

    Actual shrinkage and loss performance is evaluated against accepted norms of the organisation.

    A Shrinkage and loss reduction plan is compiled to communicate actions and implementation plans to relevant personnel.

    The implementation of shrinkage and loss reduction action plans are controlled according to identified requirements.

    Shrinkage and loss reduction plans are evaluated for impact and effectiveness.
