PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for people who check time keeping records prior to them being sent to a payroll department for pay to be made up and who authorise time worked and absent time.

Persons credited with this unit standard are able to check and verify time keeping records, to identify any errors, to correct errors as well as authorise absenteeism and ensure supporting documentation is available so that payroll queries are minimised and pay is not held up through incorrect time keeping records.

Learners will be able to:
  • Check timekeeping records for completeness.
  • Analyse time keeping records to determine short time and overtime.
  • Validate time keeping records.

    The effect of late and inaccurate pay is explained in terms of its impact on the morale of an outlet and the team. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The method for recording time worked is demonstrated according to organisational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Time keeping records are checked and missing information is identified according to organisational and legal requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Lacking information is collected from the relevant parties to complete the time keeping records.

    Analyse time keeping records to determine short time and overtime.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Absenteeism, short time and overtime and the impact thereof are explained in terms of organisational and legal prescripts. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Absenteeism, short time and overtime are identified on time keeping records in line with legal and organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The procedure to control absenteeism, overtime and short time supporting documentation is explained in terms of legal and organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Supporting documentation for absenteeism, overtime and short time is archived as required by the law and the organisational procedures.

    Validate time keeping records.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The importance of adhering to deadlines for the authorisation of time keeping records is explained as it applies to the organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Time keeping records are authorised as required by the organisation procedures within required deadlines. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Supporting documentation to be forwarded to pay office is handled as required by the law and the organisation procedures.

  • Anyone assessing an individual against this unit standard must meet the assessor requirements of the relevant ETQA. In particular, such assessors must demonstrate that they assess in terms of the scope and context defined in all the range statements.
