PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard enables the learner, as a first responder, to recognise own limitations in terms of the safety of self and others. It provides the learner with the knowledge to recognize the dangers of the different types of rescue requirements and the ability to initiate the appropriate rescue response.

The selection of specific technical rescue response team is explained in terms of the call-in and the answers to questions asked of the caller. |

The reasons for securing and/or controlling a site or scene of a required technical rescue are explained and the methods used are demonstrated. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 |
Members of the public are identified to assist in site/scene control, informed of what is required of them and supplied with the necessary protective equipment. |
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 |
Describe the general hazards associated with each type of technical rescue and explain the limitations of actions of the first responder as a non-specialist rescuer. |
