PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for managers in all economic sectors. These managers would typically be second level managers such as heads of department, section heads or divisional heads, who may have more than one team reporting to them.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying and accessing relevant laws, legal documents, standards and codes of practice applicable to a unit.
  • Interpreting laws, legal documents, standards and codes of practice relevant to a unit.
  • Analysing the compliance to legislation and other requirements that regulate the unit.
  • Formulating recommendations on addressing areas of non-compliance with legal and other requirements. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4.
  • Computer Literacy at NQF Level 4.

  • The learner is required to apply the learning in respect of this/her own area of responsibility.
  • Unit refers to the division, department or business unit in which the learner is responsible for managing and leading staff.

    Interpret laws, legal documents, standards and codes of practice relevant to the unit.

    The entity's standards and codes are analysed to determine the degree of compliance by the unit.

    Legal documents used in the unit are authentic, current and appropriate and comply with all legal and other requirements.

    Terminology used in the unit's documents, contracts, standards, codes of practice and transactions is in line with relevant legal and other requirements.

    Reporting and control systems are in place in accordance with relevant legal and other requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Ares of compliance and non-compliance are recorded and communicated to all stakeholders and interested and affected parties.

    Formulate recommendations on addressing areas of non-compliance with legal and other requirements.

    Areas where non-compliance is identified are recorded for corrective action.

    Appropriate corrective action is recommended in areas where non-compliance is identified.

    A report on non-compliance/compliance with applicable legal and other requirements, with recommendations is submitted to management and other stakeholders for appropriate corrective action.

  • Anyone assessing a candidate against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
