The learner will be able to prepare the orchard for planting, installing a trellis system and planting the trees in the orchard under supervision.

  • Prepare the orchard for planting.
  • Plant trees in a new orchard.

    1. Soil structures are identified in relation soil structures and textures 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Soil structures may refer to binding material, ratio of clay particles and crumbliness. Texture may refer to smooth soils, sandy, clay and loam soils.

    2. The effect of organic material on soil structure is explained according to soil texture

    Organic material may refer to compost and kraal manure
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The characteristics of soil are explained in relation to know soil criteria

    Characteristics of soil refer to water penetration, retention, particles in soil and soil layering - topsoil, subsoil and bedrock.

    Improvement of soil limitations by referencing ripping, delving, draining, ridging, chemical and nutrient additions.

    Workplace procedures may refer to best season to plant fruit trees and methods to prevent plant material from drying out.

  • An assessor, accredited by the relevant ETQA, will assess the learner`s competency.
  • Assessment procedures will be supplied by the ETQA in alignment with NSB requirements.

  • Assessment and moderation procedures, activities and tools must be transparent, affordable and support development within the field, sub-field and NQF.
