PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner will be able to harvest products from farm animals by milking, shearing, collect and grade eggs and storing the products of the farm animals.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Milk farm animals.
  • Shear farm animals.
  • Collect and grade eggs.
  • Store and transport farm animal products.

    1. Personal preparation is done according to workplace procedures.

    2. Milking equipment and facility are prepared according to workplace procedures.

    3. Dairy cows and goats are prepared for the milk routine according to workplace procedures. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Preparation of the animals may refer to physical preparation of the animal and determining the acceptability of milking of the animal e.g. mastitis test.

    4. Dairy cows and goats are milked according to workplace procedures.

    Preparation of animals refers to sorting, managing of the animals outside the shearing facility and by restraining animals in a crush.

    Facilities may include cool rooms, fridges, sheds and vehicles for transport.

    2. Farm animal products are packed and stored according to workplace procedures.

    3. Storing conditions of farm animal products are controlled according to workplace procedures. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Storing conditions may include temperature, humidity and environment for storage.
