PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for people who apply the credit principles and processes when assessing and finalising an application for credit by an applicant. Persons credited with this standard can select from a wide choice of procedures ranging from standard and non-standard. They are responsible for the achievement of group output.

These persons are able to assess the credit application, finalise the credit decision by either granting or declining the application for credit and communicating the outcomes of the credit application assessment to the relevant parties. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that learners attempting this unit standard have a good knowledge of different types of credit facilities offered within wholesale and retail environment. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
Specific Outcome 1: Assess and validate the credit application and supporting documentation for credit consideration purposes.

Assessment Criteria:
  • Supporting documents are examined for sufficiency and validity in terms of the organisational and legal requirements.
    Range: Supporting documents include but is not limited to proof of income and residence, proof of identification, contractual capacity, trade reference (previous accounts held).

    Specific Outcome 2: Evaluate and make recommendation and/or decision on the credit application.

  • Credit checks are obtained in order to validate the credit worthiness of the applicant.
    Range: Credit checks include but are not limited to previous banking history, previous/current accounts held, credit bureau information.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Alternative credit options are recommended to relevant parties where the original application does not meet the organisation specific requirements as per organisational policies and procedures.

    Finalise and communicate credit decision following organisation specific requirements.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Programmes leading to the award of credits from this unit standard will be accredited by the Wholesale and Retail SETA in its ETQA role. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the Wholesale and Retail ETQA.

    Moderation:

    Internal Moderations will be performed by the Accredited Providers whilst the specific ETQA will perform external moderations of assessments across the Accredited Providers according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
