PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard will provide recognition for those who conduct or intend to conduct targeted training and development using given methodologies, including group training, group facilitation and presentations. Formal recognition will enhance their employability and also provide a means to identify competent trainers. This Unit Standard will be useful to people who are involved in identifying and providing structured and targeted skills development opportunities in the workplace with individuals and groups.

People credited with this Unit Standard are able to:
  • Plan and prepare for training and development;
  • Deliver presentations for training and development purposes;
  • Deliver group training sessions;
  • Facilitate group learning activities; and
  • Review training. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The credit calculation is based on the assumption that learners are already competent in the learning area in which they will provide training. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    1. Trainers will be required to work from given workplace skills plans, learning needs analyses, target audience profiles and training and development resources and facilities.
    2. Trainers may have access to the support and guidance of experienced trainers when planning and preparing for training and development.
    3. Methodologies to include group training, group facilitation and presentations. At this level, trainers are likely to use each of these methodologies separately and according to well-defined plans and instructions. The facilitation approach will be limited to simple, direct activities, with clear goals and techniques.
    4. The trainer may provide training for any performance area, but such training should be towards a defined performance standard. The performance standard could be in the form of internal company standards or Unit Standards.
    5. This Unit Standard includes the need to develop basic learning support material such as notes, diagrams, worksheets, audio and visual aids and models.

    Learning needs are identified in relation to intended learning outcomes and stakeholder objectives.

    Stakeholders may include but are not limited to - learners, trainer, colleagues, supervisors, management, quality assurance staff, health and safety staff.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Plans cater for the identified needs of learners and stakeholders, possible learning barriers, previous learning experiences, literacy and numeracy levels, language, culture, special needs and different learning styles. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Resources, locations, and personnel are arranged to suit intended delivery. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Learning material is gathered and/or developed, as required, to suit the learning activities and the learners.

    Review criteria are confirmed and documented in accordance with organisation policies and procedures.

    Deliver presentations for training and development purposes.

    Presentations are to include some interaction between presenter and learners.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The purpose of the presentation is outlined in terms of the contribution towards expected learning outcomes. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Delivery reinforces key learning points and provides variety through the effective use of eye contact, voice modulation, body language and support material. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Information is presented at a level of complexity appropriate to the subject matter and target population. The information is suitably structured, accurate, and relevant and contributes to the presentation purpose. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Visual and audio aids support the purpose of the presentation and contribute to understanding and learning transfer. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Delivery of the presentation is modified if necessary to accommodate contingencies in the learning situation, resource availability, learner needs, and time constraints. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Appropriate checks are carried out to ensure the presentation purpose is achieved. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Deliver group training sessions.

    Including but not limited to discussion groups, workshops and action learning.

    Learners are advised of intended learning outcomes, purpose of training and the learning and assessment process. Opportunities are provided for learners to contribute to and enquire about the process.

    Training sessions are participative and contribute towards the principle of life-long learning within a positive learning environment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Training is outcomes-directed, and includes appropriate and effective explanations, demonstrations, practice and review as required to enable required learning to take place. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Language medium and level is appropriate for the learners and consistent with industry usage. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The group is managed effectively and the activities meet the group's needs in terms of pace and logic of structure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Opportunities for consolidation and practice are sufficient to ensure learner competence is achieved in terms of the defined outcomes. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    Training is carried out in accordance with specified requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Requirements include resource usage, health and safety requirements and organisational quality assurance requirements.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 8 
    The training approach provides opportunities to monitor learner's progress in terms of the agreed outcomes. Where necessary, modifications are made to the training approach to ensure the learners' needs are addressed.

    1. Assessors for this unit standard must be registered with the relevant ETQA.

    2. Providers of learning towards this unit standard must be accredited through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.

    3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures
