PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

The person credited with this unit standard is able to appreciate the different dimensions of sustainable tourism and their application within the hiring industry. They will understand their own role in contributing to sustainability within that context. The qualifying learner is capable of: Describing different roles, relationships, responsibilities and expectations of stakeholders in tourism Describing approaches for sustainable tourism Identifying types of resources integral to tourism Evaluating sustainability issues towards improving own performance Reflecting on own contribution to tourism sustainability within the hiring sector

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in mathematical skills and literacy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE

Stakeholder will include but are not limited to; travel agents, accommodation centres, conference/exhibition and event organisers, restaurants, vehicle hire companies, government officials, government departments, resorts, community development projects. Accredited sources will include but is not limited to exhibition, conference and event organisers, hotels, travel agencies, news papers, accommodation establishments, local authorities, government departments and local authorities. Sustainable strategies could include but are not limited to: cultural and social environments, commercial and environmental strategies. Types of resources could include but are not limited to: heritage resources such as archaeological, historical, cultural, wildlife and scenic, international image, human resources and social and political situations in the development of tourism enterprises.

An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA. Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
