PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to monitor activities regarding maintenance and preparation of equipment. Learners are also able to sort products for in-house maintenance or products that need to be sent away. After sorting learners are able to supervise the maintenance and preparation processes. They are able to ensure products are prepared for use according to company standards.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Developing and implementing a maintenance/preparation schedule
  • Sorting products for in-house or manufacturer maintenance
  • Ensuring the maintenance of products for future use 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in numeracy and literacy at NQF level 3 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Manufacturers include but are not limited to: dry cleaners, repair specialists, manufacturers, etc.
  • Cleaned/prepared includes but is not limited to: checking oil levels, cleaning filters, cleaning covers, changing grease, etc.
  • Safety standards include but are not limited to: hygienic regulations, safety and security standards, etc.
  • Clean storage requirements include but are not limited to: re-wrapping, re-boxing, etc.
  • Maintenance materials could include but are limited to: oils, lubricants, chemicals, scotch guarding, etc.

    The maintenance schedule is developed according to booking requirements and in the required format. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Products listed on the maintenance schedule are checked against the booked out products to ensure they are completed/returned on time before booked date. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Booked items that must be cleaned / prepared before delivery are included on the schedule based on booking date required. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Sort products for in-house or manufacturer maintenance. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Products that must be cleaned or maintained by a professional body are listed according to specifications and company cleaning instructions and service provider. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Professional body/service provider is contacted telephonically and cleaning or maintenance of the product booked as per schedule delivery requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Products are delivered to professional body/service provider in correct manner within the required timeframe and format. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Follow up roster for products delivered to professional bodies/service providers is developed and monitored according to company follow up standards and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Products that can be maintained in house are listed on a planning schedule in line with their booked date. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Ensure the maintenance of products for future use.

    Products are maintained according to manufacturer's specifications and equipment guidelines.

    Products are maintained using correct machinery as per product specifications and safety guidelines.

    Products are checked against standards for maintenance and safety standards.

    Maintained products are stored according to company standards.

    Maintenance plan is monitored and products are maintained before required time frame.
