PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner credited with this unit standard will be able to maintain seasonal trends so that they can maintain the correct levels of stock for their organisation. It will also enable them to document and administer the stock control processes, as well as update and maintain maintenance and administrative records

It will also add value by having more competent people who will have both enhanced theoretical understanding and the practical ability to understand the functions of the Hiring Sector

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying and implementing seasonal trading patterns
  • Maintaining stock levels
  • Processing incoming stock
  • Updating and maintaining maintenance records
  • Updating and maintaining administrative records 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in computer literacy, numeracy and language of communications at NQF level 3 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Peak trading periods will include but are not limited to: seasonal trading periods, monthly time trading periods and developmental trading periods.
  • Stock will include but are not limited to: items, which are kept in stock by the organisation for hire. Each organisation may carry different types of equipment.
  • Suppliers will include but are not limited to: suppliers who provide a supply of equipment to the organisation.
  • Recurring problems will include but is not limited to: equipment faults, customer requirements for products not offered and service delivery problems.
  • Maintenance of records includes but is not limited to: computer generated data and manually recorded data.

    Identify and implement seasonal trading patterns.

    Peak trading periods are identified from different sources and based on historical, accurate data and recorded as per statistical evidence. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Preparation for peak equipment demands is completed based on requirements and documented in required format. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Anticipated shortages are identified based on a demands and remedial plans implemented within required timeframe. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    During peak trading periods optimal utilisation of equipment is ensured based on requirements and are in line company standards and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    A schedule for maintenance and repairs to products is prepared and conducted during off trading periods. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Maintain stock levels.

    Physical stock takes are undertaken according to organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Optimal stock levels are ensured and maintained according stock holding levels.

    Stock is replenished by placing orders with suppliers within required time frame. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Slow moving stock is identified and appropriate action taken to move the items in line with company standards.

    Lost enquiries are investigated, solved and findings recorded in accordance with organisational requirements.

    Lost hire, due to equipment shortage, is recorded and remedial action taken to rectify stock holding of the product/equipment.

    Cost assessment to increase stock and reduce lost hire is prepared based on historical accurate data and submitted in required format for evaluation.
