PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to review development practice projects in terms of theories and principles of transformative development practice that apply to broader society and local community groups.

The learner will also be able to design evaluative programmes for development practice projects and use the information to inform future project design in ways that are in line with community principles and dynamics. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
The learner studying towards this unit standard is assumed to have completed the following Unit Standard:
  • Understand and apply principles of transformative development practice at Level 4. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Key concepts and practice used in the National Social Development arena is included as well as concepts in the United Nations policy on development practices.
  • The complexity of Level 5 indicates a more complex and wider understanding of concepts, theories, principles and practices.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION NOTES 
    Examples include the roles and responsibility of stakeholders, programmes and activities regarding community participation and funding, accountability etc. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accredited providers may establish or refine moderation procedures and systems in line with the requirements of the relevant ETQA.

    An external moderator may moderate the results of learners. External moderators should provide reports not only on the fairness and consistency of assessment, but also on the validity of the assessment design in terms of the specified outcomes.

    Although the knowledge that is embedded in this standard is explained under the assessment criteria, it is described below for clarity.

    Identifying and solving problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made:
  • In the process of critically evaluating theories and principles, identifying problems and making creative decisions learners will meet the requirements of this critical cross-field outcome. 

  • UNIT STANDARD CCFO COLLECTING 
    Collecting, analysing and critically evaluating information:
  • Identifying a range of factors, strategies and policies will assist the learner to collect critical evaluating information. The critical cross-field outcome is addressed. 

  • UNIT STANDARD CCFO COMMUNICATING 
    Communicating effectively using visual, mathematical and/or language skills in the modes of oral and/or written persuasion:
  • The learner needs to prepare various reports thus developing of language skills and other communication techniques. The whole unit standard addresses this critical cross-field outcome. 

  • UNIT STANDARD CCFO DEMONSTRATING 
    Demonstrating an understanding of the world as a set of related systems by recognising that problem-solving contexts do not exist in isolation:
  • In the final analysis of identification of different societal factors, the whole unit standard supports the notion of the world as a set of related systems. The whole unit standard addresses the critical cross-field outcome. 

  • UNIT STANDARD ASSESSOR CRITERIA 
    Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard could be employed as a development practitioner in the same provider institution with at least a level 6 Qualification and work with a registered assessor in development practice with the relevant ETQA.

    Registered Assessors must have a level 6 qualification in development practice and prior or concurrent experience as a development practitioner.

    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this unit standard was Reregistered in 2012; 2015.
