PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The Learner will be capable of:

Loading, securing, conveying and off-loading freight in a safe manner, and in accordance with the given time frames and requirements of the specific type of freight.

    Prepare for loading/off-loading process.

    1. Information pertaining to freight and route is obtained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The characteristics and specific requirements of the commodity to be transported are identified.

    3. Compatibility of commodities to be transported are established and appropriate action is taken to ensure the maintenance of the freight quality.

    1. Time schedules are considered and implications for freight are established and appropriate action is taken to ensure the maintenance of the freight quality.

    3. Driving style is adapted in order to maintain freight quality during transportation.

    1. Off-loading site is evaluated for suitability and the vehicle is positioned accordingly.

    2. Vehicle is off-loaded according to operational; safety and legal requirements and by using the appropriate means.

    3. Off-loading information is reconciled with the cargo which has been off-loaded. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Housekeeping principles are applied so that the site is left as it was found; all debris is cleared and equipment is checked against the inventory and safely stored.

    5. Relevant information is timorously communicated to the appropriate parties.

    3. Impact of the load on vehicle stability

    4. How to adjust the driving style in order to maintain freight quality.
