PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The Learner will be capable of:
Operating a Rigid Vehicle in accordance with Legal, Safety, Manufacturer and other relevant requirements and reflect on the manner in which the vehicle is operated. |

a) At least 2 of the following gearbox types: Synchro-mesh Non-synchro mesh Automatic b) At least 1 of the following retardation systems (refers to a braking system fitted on a vehicle, in addition to brake systems, as required by law). Engine brakes Drive line retarders (electro-magnetic and Hydraulic) Exhaust brakes c) Service brake system a) Driving in wet weather conditions - at least 5 hours or practically demonstrated competence. b) Driving on dirt roads - at least 5 hours or practically demonstrated competence. c) Night driving - at least 20 hours or practically demonstrated competence. d) Mountain/hill driving - at least 5 hours or practically demonstrated competence. e) Urban driving - at least 10 hours or practically demonstrated competence. f) Driving in peak traffic conditions - at least 10 hours or practically demonstrated competence. g) Freeway driving - at least 5 hours or practically demonstrated competence. h) At least 5 hours with a combination of any 3 of the above. |

1. The following assessment methods must be regarded as minimum requirements for the assessment of learner competence: i) Questioning ii) Practical Driving Test iii) Portfolio of evidence of past driving experience as per Range Statement. 2. Credentialing Certificate must stipulate the following aspects regarding the learner`s assessment: i) License Code; ii) Vehicle make; Type and configuration, used in assessment; iii) Gearbox type used in assessment; iv) Retardation system used in assessment. 3. If the Learner is assessed on any additional aspects, as mentioned in 2, these will be added to the certificate. No additional credits will be accumulated. |
