PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The purpose of this Unit Standard is to enable Plasterers to apply screeds to concrete floors and steps, lay insitu concrete paving, and to repair granolithic floors. |

FETC NQF Level 2 literacy and numeracy competencies. |
UNIT STANDARD RANGE |
1. All completed surfaces to be straight and even i.e. free of bumps or hollows, and free of tool marks.
2. Methods of curing surfaces include applying water or curing membrane. 3. Float finishes include steel and wood float finishes. |

1. A sand (leveling) screed is mixed and applied to a concrete floor. |

2. A grano screed is mixed and applied to a concrete floor. |

3. Concrete steps are screeded to a granolithic finish. |

1. The extent of damaged screed is determined, marked and loose grano is removed. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 |
2. All rubble and loose dirt is removed, and protrusions from the concrete surface are removed. |

3. Cut area is ensured to be free from grease, oil, or material which caused or will cause damage to the floor screed. |

4. New grano is mixed, applied and float finished. |

Assessment of learner achievements takes place at providers accredited by CETA (RSA, 1998b) for the provision of programs that result in the outcomes specified. CETA is responsible for moderation of learner achievements of learners who meet the requirements of this unit standard. |

1. The function, properties, and application of screeds and granolithic finishes. 2. The mix proportions of screeds and grano, and the effects of cement/water ratios on strength. 3. The methods for achieving a well-compacted substrate layer under paving, and the identification and selection of suitable gravel material to produce this layer. |
