PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Each learner must be able to plan meetings, draw up agendas, conduct meetings and prepare minutes. Learners must be able to carry tasks from meetings into work schedules and be prepared to chair meetings of various types.

    Recommendations and Exemplars for the design of:

    Learning/curriculum
  • The learner must be able to use standard meeting procedures and protocols and demonstrate the written and oral communication skills required for conducting meetings.
    *The learner should arrange several meetings including the drawing up of an agenda for each meeting.
    *The learner should familiarise him/ her self with all the requirements and protocols for the different types of meetings.
  • Potential exercise: Learner could practice managing a meeting through role-plays until the learner has more experience.
  • Potential project: Learners could prepare an agenda for the different types of meetings. Each learner could take a turn in conducting the meeting for their agenda, ensuring that the objectives of the meeting and allocated time frames are met.
  • Special emphasis must be placed on the importance of accurate minute taking and the timely distribution of documentation and actioning arising from meetings.

    Performance systems
  • Ongoing measurement of the learner`s ability to meet this standard is recommended.
  • A new employee should be able to achieve this unit within 1 month of being trained.
