PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner accredited with this standard will be able to demonstrate applied competence in managing the proper care of freight through the control of handling, movement, securing and safeguarding techniques.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    This standard is applicable to those in a control or management position within operations in a freight handling/storage environment: South Africa. The candidate will deal with a variety of routine and non-routine situations, and be able to determine appropriate methods and procedures in response to a range of concrete problems with some theoretical elements. The candidate has full responsibility for the nature, quantity, and quality of output, and possible responsibility for the achievement of group output.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered with the FE/HE Registrar and the programs offered by this institution must be accredited with the relevant ETQA.

    3. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.

    3. Environmental protection and the legislation underpinning this, within the freight care management process.

    4. Which stakeholders make up the logistics chain, the roles and responsibilities of individual stakeholders pertaining to the care of freight, and the importance of effective communication and relationship building between stakeholders.

    5. Quality and systems used for ensuring the control maintenance of quality standards and statutory requirements through the logistics chain (e.g. ISO, SABS).
