    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    Learning / Curriculum:

    The importance of identifying the correct criteria for the position should be given attention. Learning should include spending at least 30 hours with a recruitment specialist or in a recruitment agency.
  • This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to recruit and select staff within the framework of overall human resource plans.
  • Learning should include research on interviewing techniques.
  • Learning should include an understanding of the purpose and content of an induction programme.
  • The learner must be know and understand the relevant legislation pertaining to the recruitment and selection of staff. This should include knowledge of equal employment opportunity, anti-discrimination, award provisions and dismissal procedures.
  • The learner should become familiar with the recruitment administration systems of the organisation.
  • The learner could practice developing accurate selection criteria for recruitment based on specific staffing needs. Case studies could be used for this exercise.
  • Learner could practice and develop interviewing techniques in a simulated environment until sufficient confidence and experience is gained. Simulations should be evaluated by the recruitment officer/ HR manager in the form of testimony.
  • The learner should work in the relevant department over a period of time so that the learner is given sufficient time to develop the skills and knowledge required to achieve competence in this unit. Learner could evaluate the current induction programme and make recommendations for improvements. Learner should use the induction programme with new employees and make adjustments based on employee feedback.
  • Learner must be able to establish accurate selection criteria for recruitment
  • Learner must be able to conduct fair and effective interviews.
  • Learner must be able to make selections based on agreed criteria
  • Learner must understand the recruitment and record keeping system of the organisation as well as the legal environment in which recruitment takes place
  • A portfolio of evidence could be collected of the exercises and project that have been completed as well as workplace experience. HR manager/ recruitment officer evaluations should be included. Testimony of interviews conducted would also be valid.

    Performance systems:
  • Ongoing measurement of the learner`s ability to meet this standard is recommended.
  • A new employee should be able to achieve this unit within 2 months of being trained.
