PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to use the correct process to prepare a credit proposal after identifying the relevant authority to whom the proposal must be presented. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Persons credited with this unit standard are required to have a broad understanding of all business products and services offered by the bank as well as of the economics of business. Such persons should also have an understanding of accounting and be competent in financial analysis. This unit standard should be completed in conjunction with the unit standard to assess the viability of a business (SFS012).

1. The amount and risk associated with the facility required by the client are established according to the bank's guidelines. 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
2. The appropriate level of authority for the consideration of the credit application is identified in order to determine the format of the proposal as well as the correct channels. 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
3. The correct process for credit approval is identified as required by the bank.

Prepare the credit proposal.

1. The necessary information and supporting documentation are collected as required by the appropriate format.

2. The amount and risk associated are presented in line with the bank's requirements.

3. The specific terms and conditions for the management of the risk are proposed in line with the bank's requirements.

4. The information is presented in the format required by the bank.

5. The proposal and supporting documentation are checked for completeness and correctness. 


UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.

3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.

Therefore anyone wishing to be assessed against this unit standard may apply to be assessed by any assessment agency, assessor or provider institution which is accredited by the relevant ETQA.

  • Detailed knowledge of specific banking policies and procedures relating to the function/tasks performed.
  • The ability to apply financial analysis skill to evaluate an individual's financial position.
  • The ability to express analysis and judgement clearly both in written and verbal communication.
  • Operating and computer systems knowledge sufficient to locate the necessary information and complete the function/task.
  • An understanding of basic elements of business credit risk and principles of sound lending.
  • A broad knowledge of the wide range of banking products.
  • Good customer relation skills.
  • The ability to calculate various interest rates, repayment amounts and periods, and charges
  • The ability to analyse market factors 


  • Critical Cross-field Outcomes (CCFO): 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO IDENTIFYING 
    Identify and solve problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made when the appropriate level of authority for the consideration of the credit application is identified in order to determine the format of the proposal as well as the correct channels. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO ORGANISING 
    Organise and manage oneself and one's activities responsibly and effectively when the proposal and supporting documentation are checked for completeness and correctness. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO COLLECTING 
    Collect, organise and critically evaluate information when the necessary information and supporting documentation are collected as required by the appropriate format. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO COMMUNICATING 
    Communicate effectively using visual, mathematical and language skills in the modes of oral and written presentations when the information is presented in the format required by the bank.
