PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard is for persons who work in a steel manufacturing mill as Tube Maker, in a supervisory capacity. Qualifying learners can plan and oversee the manufacturing process for the production of welded steel tube, and will understand the importance of effective equipment control and how this is achieved.

This will include overseeing the process and includes, but is not limited to: product change, maintaining production parameters, quality control, health and safety, product optimisation and documentation.

Qualifying learners will be able to:
  • Plan and prepare for the welded tube manufacturing process.
  • Supervise product change for tube mill production.
  • Monitor mill performance and trouble shoot.
  • Co-ordinate roll tooling in a welded tube mill.
  • Work safely with due care for self, fellow workers, equipment, materials and the environment.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
It is assumed that learners are competent in:

It is compulsory that learners at this stage are proficient in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematics at NQF Level 3.
