PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for the person who is responsible for informing the purchasers about the auction and the process to be followed. An understanding of the bidding process and the importance of completing the vendu roll will also be achieved, in order to facilitate a successful auction.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Communicating pre-auction information to the target audience.
  • Applying bid calling techniques.
  • Applying bid spotting techniques.
  • Completing the vendu roll. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that a learner will be competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Types of auctions will include on party vs. consignment, catalogue, antiques, general merchandise, real estate, liquor and motor vehicles, domestic and wild animals.
  • Clients would include new, regular, walk in, expected and unexpected.
  • Body language will include gestures, eye contact and posture.

    The purpose of using auctioneering bid calling techniques is explained in terms of achieving a successful auction. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Bid calling techniques are used in a manner that expresses a clear intention to the target audience and obtains maximum participation from bidders. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Techniques include slogans, body gestures and fill-inns.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Each lot is called and finalised in accordance with generally accepted timeframes for the type of auction.

    Apply bid spotting techniques.

    Techniques for spotting bidders are explained according to organisational requirements for the type of auction.

    Bidder observation methods and techniques are used to facilitate the sale of goods.

    Buyers are identified and spotted in accordance with organisational procedures for style and time.

    All bids offered are acknowledged in accordance with organisational procedures.
