PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for people who are required to manage the process at auction sales. It does not include the actual bidding process, but covers all other aspects of the sale.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Familiarising self with the products on sale.
  • Understanding the price range for various products.
  • Invoicing the client.
  • Resolving any conflict arising at the auction. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that a learner will be competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Specialised movable property includes motor vehicles, firearms, liquor, computer hardware, computer software and items covered by copyright.
  • Documentary proof includes motor vehicle registration, firearms licenses, applicable software licenses, proof of purchase and stock registers.
  • Immovable property includes buildings and outbuildings including fixtures.
  • Movable property includes all assets other than immovable property.

    Products on sale are analysed and classified according to type, condition and value.

    Background information on products is obtained in order to provide additional information to prospective bidders, thereby ensuring a fair process.

    Noteworthy aspects pertaining to each item are recorded for use during the auction.

    Demonstrate understanding of the price range for various products.

    Real value of products is determined in accordance with industry acceptable practices for the type of product.

    The minimum and maximum selling range for similar products is determined in accordance with organisational procedures.

    The reason for knowing values and price ranges is explained in terms of judging the audience and determining a starting bid.

    Conclude the sale.

    The consequences of not adhering to the conditions of sale are described in terms of penalties and legal action.

    Conditions of sale are explained to clients in line with auction conditions and organisational procedures.

    Verbal and non-verbal communication from disgruntled audience members is actioned to minimise potential conflict at a later stage. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Consequences of using a confrontational manner in dealing with disgruntled clients are explained in terms of individual and organisational reputation, as well as the resolution of the conflict.
