PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Legislation was passed to give effect to land transportation in the country. While the legislation deals with many issues, learners completing this standard will focus on those aspects related to the work of a traffic official.

Learners credited with this standard will be able to:
  • Describe the Traffic Official related sections of the land transport legislation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of permits and operating licences.
  • Apply knowledge of law enforcement in regard to operating licences.

    Types of vehicles that may be used for public transport and those exempted are described in accordance with the legislation.

    The duties of the holder of an operating licence are described in accordance with the legislation.

    The proclamation of special events regulations are explained in terms of requirement and enforcement. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Special events include but are not limited to events by proclamation in the Government Gazette e.g 2010 FIFA World Cup.
     


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through Recognition of Prior Learning) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or assessing this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
