PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard develops the knowledge and skills needed to manufacture re-treaded tyre products. Qualifying learners are able to:
  • Conduct visual inspection of casing to review condition of retreaded tyre.
  • Prepare rubber for tyre retreaded process.
  • Apply safety standards in the manufacture of retreat type product.
  • Apply quality standards in the manufacture of retreat type product.

    It is assumed that learners are competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 2.

    Conduct visual inspection of casing to review condition of retread tyre. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    Old tread is buffed off to clean surface in order to meet tyre retreaded requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Reasons for buffing off old tyre are given. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Casing is checked for damages according to inspection requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Damaged casing is discarded in line with company or standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Decision is made on type of intervention required. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Reasons are given on the type of intervention selected.
