PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The purpose of this unit standard is for learners to be able to develop their perceptual skills in order for them to develop studies based on direct observation as well as develop concepts through a variety of rendering processes. Perceptual skills borne out of a process of immersion in visual experience are fundamental to the development of a visual sensibility and competence in the manipulation of visual language (art elements and design principles) as a medium for ideation and expression. Traditionally, perceptual skills are developed and most directly applied through a range of drawing techniques. This unit standard accommodates a wide set of possible tools, techniques and materials, recognising that these skills are frequently acquired outside of a formal training situation through working with a variety of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional tools and media.
Through establishing a standard of rigour in the development of a sound foundation of perceptual skills and visual acuity, the standard promotes the development of confident and individuated application and manipulation of visual language. The development of unique artworks borne out of an individual's creative immersion in the rendering of visual experience is central to the economics of the visual arts industry, and provides visual artists with unique creative resources that can be brought to bear on occupations, projects and income-earning opportunities across the creative industries. Credited learners are capable of: |
