PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for learners across a multitude of sectors, but was specifically developed for the Public Relations sector. The learner credited with this Unit Standard is able to plan for a media conference taking into consideration the resources required. Learners will also be able to schedule the media conference and prepare the programme, media kits and support materials as well as set up a venue for the media conference.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to:

  • Organise the media conference.

    It is assumed that the learner has the following knowledge and skills:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4.

    A media conference refers to an event that that facilitates communication, secure information sharing, interoperability and collaboration.

    The purpose of the media conference is determined so as the goals and objectives can be set.

    The participants and media to the media conference are identified so that logistical arrangements can be determined. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The logistics for a media conference are determined according to the purpose, goals and objectives and expected attendees. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Logistics may include but are not limited to the venue, date, time, travel and accommodation.

    A budget is prepared which makes allowance for contingencies.

    The media conference is scheduled to cater for media deadlines.

    Media kit may include but are not limited to media releases, speeches, CDs or DVDs with audio and/or visual material and promotional items.

    Support materials are prepared in line with the corporate identity of the organisation.

    Support materials may include but are not limited to brochures, notes, name tags and registration cards.

    The venue is set up in accordance with the media conference requirements and its objectives and goals. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Set up may include but is not limited to layout, furniture, audio-visual equipment, catering and stationery.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Spokespersons at the media conference are prepared in terms of the purpose, goals and objectives of the media conference. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Attendees to the media conference are received with due regard to protocol. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Received includes but is not limited to the provision of media kits and the allocation of seating.
