PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this Unit Standard will have knowledge of the types of materials that can be coated and those used in coating, be able to understand how materials/components are coated, prepare for the task, coat the materials, perform quality checks to ensure customer requirements have been met and consider health and safety issues. The learner will also understand the importance of this activity in the automotive and related sectors.

    The importance of planning, preparation and safety is discussed in terms of different coating processes in various contexts. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The production schedule is analysed the sequence of activities is planned to suit the production schedule. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The components, materials, tools and equipment required for coating are described in terms of their functions and checked for quantity and quality before operations according to standard operating procedure.

    Unsafe or defective components, materials, tools and equipment are reported to appropriate personnel to ensure safety and maintenance of the production process. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Potential hazards associated with coating are identified and methods to deal with them are discussed to ensure safety of self and the team.

    Hazards include but are not limited to material spillage, working with hazardous substances, working with heat.
