PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to utilise her/his knowledge of the legislation, policies and procedures which underpin community development in order to promote participation and empowerment in community projects and initiatives. The awareness of any legal prescripts within a specific community context will support the role of the community development worker.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Describing the key legislation that impacts on the community development worker in the South Africa context.
  • Identifying and describing key policies that underpin the legislation within a community development context.
  • Analyse and interpret legislation and policies to determine how it relates and impacts on community development.
  • Interpreting various procedures underpinning community development policies for the benefit of the given community.

    It is assumed that a learner is competent in:

    Appropriate services are selected in terms of how they can play a role and advise on a community initiative/project.

    Interpret various procedures underpinning community development policies for the benefit of a given community.

    The procedures and processes that are followed for a community development initiative are identified and analysed in terms of logic and flow. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The procedures and processes that are followed for a community development initiative are identified and analysed in terms of the impact on the community. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Services are evaluated within a given framework to advise a selected community on appropriate procedures to be followed. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Procedures for accessing services are identified in terms of the challenges within various legislation and policies. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.

  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
