PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The person credited with this unit standard will be able to explain the functions and responsibilities of internationally recognised organisations concerned with shipping and will be able to implement those actions in the event of an oil spill or other pollution emergency. They will also be able to contribute to the protection, preservation of the marine environment by identifying the maritime environmental zones regarding the disposal of garbage and other waste at sea and understand the methods for the disposal of garbage and other waste at sea with reference to the various zones.
