PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner will acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to coach senior athletes at club level, provincial and national levels. They will be able to coach the jumping disciplines of high jump, long jump, triple jump and pole vault by demonstrating the specific techniques and skills needed to coach senior athletes in the jumps events at competitive level.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Evaluating the development of the jumps events.
  • Explaining the rules and the use of equipment related to jumps events.
  • Demonstrating the various techniques and styles for jumps events.
  • Planning and implementing a training programme.
  • Conducting coaching activities.
  • Evaluating coaching interventions.

    Jumping techniques are demonstrated according to athletes' needs and ability.

    Jumping styles are evaluated for selection according to the athletes' physical make up and ability.

    Techniques to address athlete limitations and short comings are evaluated and styles are refined in relation to athletes' performance.

    A competition plan for jumps events is developed and implemented according to competition schedules.

    Training plans are developed and implemented through periodized training cycles for long jumpers in accordance with available resources, level of conditioning of athletes, environment, logistics and safety requirements.

  • Weights, agility and strength training, practice sessions.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Training plans are developed and implemented through periodized training cycles for high jump athletes in accordance with available resources, level of conditioning of athletes, environment, logistics and safety requirements.

    Training plans are developed and implemented for triple jump athletes in accordance with available resources, level of conditioning of athletes, environment, logistics and safety requirements.

    Training plans are developed and implemented for pole vault athletes in accordance with level of conditioning of athletes environment, logistics and safety requirements.

    A lesson plan for jumps events is developed and implemented in terms of available resources and level of conditioning of the athletes.

    Training methods are evaluated and selected to meet the needs of the jumpers according to standard practice.

    Assessment methods are evaluated and selected to assess jumpers' performance according to standard practice.

    Lesson plans are reviewed and adapted accordingly.
