PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner will be able to explain and introduce a company specific contingency plan during disruptions in a rail environment:

  • Explaining the responsibilities of the various role-players.
  • Executing and terminating of the contingency plan.

  • Communication at NQF Level 2.
  • Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 2.
  • Utilise pilot working of train control for safe movement on rail at NQF Level 3.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The contingency plan is explained in terms of its purpose within the organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The circumstances that lead to the introduction of a contingency plan are explained in terms of their causes and possible contingency plans that could be implemented. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Circumstances include but are not limited to accidents, fires, derailment, washaways and power outages.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Lines of communication are explained in terms of executing the contingency plan.

    Explain the responsibilities of the various role-players.

    Roleplayers involved in the execution of the contingency plan are identified in terms of their inputs and responsibilities.

    Communication during the execution of a contingency plan is conducted in accordance with organisational protocols.

    The contingency plan is implemented and executed in accordance with organisational protocols. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The contingency plan is terminated in accordance with organisational protocols and procedures.

    Reporting procedures are executed according to organisational requirements.
