PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners working within a payroll environment, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to one's job capabilities. The completion of this standard will provide the learner competences in accurately capturing payroll data and identifying and solving problems relating to data capturing.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Demonstrating an understanding of all the various requirements of accuracy in capturing biographical data for a payroll system.
  • Familiarising self with a specific payroll system and procedures.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the requirements of a payroll system in order to report effectively into a financial system.

    Signing off requirements and criteria are identified and explained in relation to payroll system in own organisation.

    The different forms that needs to be sourced in order to effectively capture payroll data are identified in relation to how they impact on payroll system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Exceptional instructions are requested in writing and verified with the relevant authority. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Exceptional instructions include but are not limited to requests to not deduct tax, emolument orders (court orders) and changing number of dependents.

    The process that is followed on the system is explained in relation to the required outputs.

    The importance of leaving an auditable paper trail is explained in relation to own payroll system and organisational requirements.

    The various components that can affect the accuracy of a payroll system are explained with examples.

    Any discrepancies in payroll data are identified and rectified where necessary and reported to relevant authority. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The implications of data in a payroll system on an auditable paper trail are explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The process for reporting on payroll processes and the related financial data is explained in relation to the requirements of own organisation.
