PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner will be able to plan rail movement, complete and issue telegraph orders and conform to POSMOR and related train working rules in order to contribute to safe movement on rail.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Planning rail movement.
  • Making rail movement arrangements.
  • Authorising rail movement.
  • Communicating and recording train movement according to train working rules.

    Rail movement information is gathered in terms of immediate operational requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Information includes but is not limited to type of train, crossing of trains, passing of trains, timetables of commuter and freight trains.

    Rail movement running times are calculated in terms of the gathered information.

    Rail movements are planned according to operational requirements.

    Operational requirements include but are not limited to run through, crossing and shunting.

    Information about movement is recorded in a train register in accordance with organisational procedures.
