PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Undertake the planning and selection of plants for a decoration.
  • Install the decoration in the chosen venue.
  • Dismantle the decoration and return the plants to the nursery.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Ensure that personnel adhere to the appropriate health and safety procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The PPC and PPE items that must be used by the personnel, are described and the frequency in which these must be inspected/replaced is explained in accordance with the company's SOPs. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The reporting procedures for health and safety hazards are explained in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The condition of vehicles to be used for transporting goods and personnel is described in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The requirements for the safe transporting of staff on vehicles are explained in terms of the company procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The loading and securing of various equipment in the workplace is demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The points to be considered in an emergency situation are explained in accordance with the company procedures to ensure that the safety of others is not jeopardised and that any injured party is attended to as a matter of immediacy. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    The basic first aid to be used in an emergency situation is demonstrated in order to ensure that the correct aid is provided according to the relevant injury. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Undertake the installation of a decoration with the assistance of workers. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The adequate watering of plants in preparation for their move and placement in a decoration is explained with respect to the micro-climate that prevails at the venue. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The genera, species and varieties of plants that are suitable for decorations are identified and the reasons for their use are provided with relevance to the function and the venue where the plant decoration will be displayed. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The various allied products are identified in accordance with the requirements of the display design. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The selection and checking of equipment to be used is demonstrated in terms of the requirements of the display and in accordance with the company procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The supervision of workers loading and handling selected plants is demonstrated in accordance with the company procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The correct transporting and moving of plants is demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    The methods for ensuring working safety at the venue being decorated are described in respect of the positive contribution that this has on minimising safety incidents in the workplace. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 8 
    The placement of plants, decoration material and equipment to achieve an attractive effect is explained and demonstrated in accordance with the display concept or design. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 9 
    The supervision of personnel placing plants and equipment and tidying up the display is demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Supervise the dismantling of a decoration according to the workplace procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The procedures for the systematic breakdown of a decoration are explained to ensure that minimum breakage occurs and that the venue is left in its original state of cleanliness. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The correct relocation of returned plants, equipment and allied products is demonstrated according to the company procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The need for regular cleaning and maintenance of all decoration structures, equipment and allied products is explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The necessity of checking the operation of equipment regularly and timeously is explained to ensure that any repairs to damaged or malfunctioning equipment can be conducted in accordance with the company procedures.

  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against the qualification must be registered as an assessor with the relevant Education and Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.

  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant Education and Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described in the associated unit standards.
  • Anyone wishing to be assessed against this qualification may apply to be assessed by any assessment agency, assessor or provider institution that is accredited by the relevant ETQA.
