  • All personnel involved in the activities in the Saw Doctor Shop.
  • All material handled and processed in the Saw Doctor Shop.
  • All the prescribed work place procedures and safety, health and environmental management procedures relating to the Saw Doctor Shop.
  • All the prescribed for hanging saw blades and setting up frame saw machine procedures and schedules, tools and materials used in the Saw Doctor Shop.
  • All the saws, knives and cutters handled and processed in the Saw Doctor Shop.

    The context of this Unit Standard relates to the training of a learner at NQF Level 2 in Saw Doctoring and specifically to set up and hang a set of frame saw blades in a frame saw machine used in the Lumber Mill.

    The level assigned to this Unit Standard, i.e. NQF Level 2 is appropriate because:

  • An assessor, accredited with a relevant NQF Level 4 or higher qualification, will assess the learner's competency. Only an Assessor with suitable first hand experience in process operations will assess the learner's competency.
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against the qualification must be registered as an assessor with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.

  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described in the associated unit standards.
