    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1
    Establish field length performance limits.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
ICAO Type A survey drawings are interpreted in accordance with Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM).

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Determine take off distance (TODA) available and accelerate stop distance available according to drawing interpretation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Take off distance (TODA) is adjusted in order to take into account various influences on the performances of the aircraft.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Influences include the effect of runway slope, wind component, braking configuration, brakes de-activation, runway friction coefficient and allowance for aircraft line-up on runway.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Amount of clearway used is defined and applied to TODA in order to optimise field length and obstacle clearance performance.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Amount of clearway used decided by obstacle gradient used, runway sterilisation applied and AFM limits.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
Amount of stopway used is defined and applied to TODA in order to optimise field length performance.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Amount of stopway used decided by AFM limits.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6
Corrected runway length and V1/VR ratio are chosen in order to determine field length limit weight.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7
Field length limit weight is analysed by taking into account applicable parameters.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Applicable parameters includes corrected runway length, hot/cold thrust charts, flap setting, effective thrust, effective lift co-efficient, rate of acceleration, rate of deceleration.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2
    Optimise take off climb performance.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Take-off climb gradients are derived in order to optimise take-off climb limit weights.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Take-off climb gradients include second, third, fourth and extended second segment.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Take-off climb gradients are checked for legal compliance in terms of legislation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Maximum and minimum level of height is checked for obstacle clearance and clean up distance.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Flap setting is selected to optimise climb gradient capability and flight path distances.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
Improved climb is used to improve second segment climb capability.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
Calculate and produce thrust setting tables.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Impact of pressure altitude and outside air temperature (OAT) on relevant engine performance parameters is calculated according to manufacturer's specifications.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Thrust levels are identified and applied according to manufacturer's specifications.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Settings are calculated within the limits specified in manufacturer's documentation.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Limits includes but is not limited to case pressure, turbine inlet temperature, exhaust gas temperature, engine temperature, engine speed limits, air conditioning configuration and anti ice system operation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Limits of applicability of settings are determined according to constraints of engine certification as per manufacturer's specifications.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4
    Ascertain missed approach climb performance.
    OUTCOME RANGE
Missed approach climb performance must calculated for the current pressure altitude and prevailing atmospheric conditions.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
The differences between approach climb and landing climb are analysed in terms of gradients to be applied considering different aircraft configurations defined in the regulations.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Approach and landing climb performance is calculated according to the AFM.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Calculations must include in-flight ice, leading edge ice, flap setting, thrust setting and number of engines operating as applicable.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
The calculations are analysed and compared in order to determine the most restrictive climb performance to comply with regulations.
