The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Analysing the client brief.
  • Gathering on-site information.
  • Applying principles of perception and visualization to the brief.
  • Analysing and applying data to the design.
  • Producing a free-hand drawing of the proposal.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Information requirements are listed and explained in relation to the brief.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Authorised land survey is conducted at correct location and within agreed time frames.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Survey information is collated and documented in the required format and within agreed time frames.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Environmental considerations are recorded according to organizational and legal requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
Health and safety regulations are adhered to according to organisational requirements.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
Apply principles of perception and visualization to represent interpretation of client requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Principles of points and lines are explained in relation to spatial perception.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Freehand interpretation is sketched in relation to client needs.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
A scale model representing client requirements is produced using recycled and/or indigenous materials.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4
Analyse and apply data to the design.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Recorded data is explained within agreed design parameters.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Design standards are explained to all relevant parties.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Range of design standards includes, but is not limited to:
  • International, national and organizational.

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Design is produced in conformation to standards and code of practice for engineering.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Potential personnel safety hazards are determined and preventative measures are integrated in accordance with approved codes of practice.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
Progressive tolerances are calculated to ensure functional operation as per job requirements and time frames.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6
Relevant dimensions and assemblies are reflected to meet job requirements.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5
Produce a free-hand drawing of the proposal.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Object to be drawn is identified against recorded brief as per client specifications.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Free-hand drawing is produced using only one 0.5mm clutch pencil to represent different line types, indicating minimum detail and within agreed time frame.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Range of details for drawing includes, but is not limited to:
  • Dimensions and related notes.
