PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The person credited with this Unit Standard will be able to provide feedback to the necessary persons regarding the performance of a race horse. They will be able to single out incidents and make the necessary judgement calls in the case of an objection.

The reasons for reading a horse race are explained in order to establish that optimal performance was achieved. |

Situations to observe in the reading of the horse race are listed and explained in a case study. |

The effect on a horse of the different states of going is explained in terms of safety and performance. |

Problems could include but are not limited to interference from other horses, horse forced wide, horse pulling, horse difficult to restrain or over racing, not acting in the going, horse stumbles, clipping heels, horse baulked for a run, slow into stride, horse breaks down, jockey interference or intimidation. |
