PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
In order for inspectors to command respect necessary for wide ranging interactions with a diverse sphere of socio economic groups and officials, they must exhibit appropriate dress code, behaviour and knowledge. By maintaining this professional image the inspector will be able to achieve their goal of uplifting animal welfare. This unit standard reflects this need and a learner credited with it will be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of projecting a professional personal image.
  • Deal with a complaint relating to the organisation and not a cruelty complaint.
  • Ensure that vehicle and equipment are maintained.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The reasons why an inspector needs to portray a professional image are explained in terms of the impact on the society being dealt with. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Grooming, uniform and insignia standards of the organisation are explained in accordance with organisational standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The importance of adopting an assertive and professional manner is explained for an operational context. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Unacceptable conduct when in uniform is described in terms of actions and impact on the society. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Appropriate behavior is described for various confrontational situations. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Deal with a complaint relating to the organisation and not a cruelty complaint.

    Regular attention is paid to the vehicle to ensure that it is clean, serviced and roadworthy at all times.

    The fuel level is monitored and replenished in accordance with organisational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Equipment is checked to ensure that it is complete and serviceable according to organisational standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The vehicle and equipment are used in accordance with organisational and legislative safety requirements.

    Safety equipment and reflective vests are used correctly when appropriate.
