PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard has been designed for a learner who will carry out post-production and finishing operations on a manufactured product. There are a variety of post production processes and finishing operations activities depending on the context in which the learner is located. The learner will learn about the importance of meeting customer requirements and dispatching the product/component appropriately.

Learners credited with this standard will be able to:
  • Prepare for work activity.
  • Conduct finishing procedures.
  • Dispatch product to customer or downline process.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    Finishing operations include clamping, placing into fixtures or jigs, cleaning off residues, polishing, wiping, washing, dusting; lifting and removing product, conditioning, annealing or post-cure, spraying, punching, teaming.

    Finishing procedures may include marking, labelling and stamping; packing, wrapping and stacking, simple product testing such as functionality testing, bundling, strapping, coiling, straightening, binding, reeling.

    An understanding about the role of finishing operations in the production process is demonstrated in terms of the context in which the operations occur.

    The importance of following procedures and processes during these operations is explained to ensure that the sequence is followed to prevent wastage and promote efficiency. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Scheduling, packing and finishing requirements for product or components are checked to ensure compliance with customer or downline requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Required materials and tools for use at the work station are checked to ensure operational safety and efficiency. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Working area is prepared to ensure smooth operations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Personal protective clothing is used to ensure individual safety.

    Work is performed safely with due care for self, fellow workers, equipment, materials and the environment.

    Incidents, occurrences that impact negatively on personnel and/or the finishing operations are reported to supervisor and discussed with the team.
