PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard reflects the skills, values and knowledge required by people in the field of Occupational, Health and Safety who are responsible for measuring compressed air and/or water pressure in a workplace by means of a hand held pressure gauge.

Qualifying learners can measure compressed air and/or water pressure.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:

    Demonstrate knowledge to measure compressed air and/or water pressure.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The method for the measuring compressed air and water pressure in a working place is explained in terms of manufacturer's specifications and workplace requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The effects of abnormal pressures are explained in terms of the consequences to occupational health, safety and productivity. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The principle of operation, the range of the gauges and precautions regarding handling and storage are explained in terms of legal and manufacturer's requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The measuring positions and the application of the gauges are explained in terms of legal, manufacturer's specifications and site-specific requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Gauge pressure, absolute pressure and vacuum pressure are explained in terms of legal and operational requirements.

    Permission to enter the working place is obtained in accordance with site-specific requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The location where a compressed air and/or water pressure measurement is required is selected in accordance with measurement specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Possible risk and influence on accurate compressed air and/or water pressure measurement at the selected location is identified and dealt with in terms of measurement specifications and workplace conditions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The required personal protective equipment is used in accordance with its design and specified requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Use includes the checking of availability, examination, in working order, fit for purpose.

    The pressure measurement instrument is used in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.

    Pressure measurements are taken in accordance with legal and site-specific requirements.

    The recording of the data is according to worksite requirements.

    The measured pressure is compared with the specified standard. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Abnormal pressures are dealt with in accordance with legal and site-specific requirements.

    Work related hazards and associated risks pertaining to occupational health and safety are identified and dealt with in accordance with specified requirements.

    The selected pressure measurement instrument is cleaned and stored in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and site-specific requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Defective pressure measurement instruments is reported and dealt with in accordance with worksite specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Reports are completed and submitted in accordance with legal and site-specific requirements.
